Glaucoma

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve- the only pathway between the brain and the eyes. No one knows for sure what causes it, but raised intraocular pressure and reduced peripheral vision are stymptoms. Please note, however, that a person can have glaucoma and not experience or notice any symptoms, so it is important to have your eyes checked regularly.

Up to 10 million Americans suffer from this disease, many of them undiagnosed.

How  is it treated?

Medicinal eyedrops are the most common form of treatment. More advanced cases can be treated with laser surgery.
