Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)

What is Pink Eye?

Pink eye, or viral conjunctivitis, is the most common type of conjunctivitis, or inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin clear layer of cells that cover the eye and line the inside of the eyelid. It is often, but not always, associated with an upper resperatory infection, like a cold, and is typically accompanied by the symptoms of red itchy, watery eyes and "goupy" discharge.

How is it treated?

Because it is a viral infection, antibiotics are not effective in treatment. Cold compresses and artificial tears may make you more comfortable.

There are many diseases that look very similar to viral conjunctivitis/ "pink eye." so if you are having any eye problems at all, we strongly recommend that you seek help from an eye care professional immediately.
